Indonesia's new President Subianto expressed gratitude to PM Modi for his good wishes.

Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Pabitra Margherita also attended the swearing-in ceremony of Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto and Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka. He congratulated both the leaders on behalf of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

“President Prabowo expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Modi for his good wishes,” the Ministry of External Affairs said. During her two-day visit, Margherita also interacted with CEOs of major Indian companies present in Indonesia.

The Ministry of External Affairs said, “Indonesia is a comprehensive strategic partner of India. The visit of the Minister of State for External Affairs for the inauguration ceremonies of the President and Vice President of Indonesia reaffirms the importance that India attaches to its relations with Indonesia as a close partner and maritime neighbour.”

Both countries are celebrating 75 years of establishment of diplomatic relations in 2024. This year also marks a decade of India's 'Act East' policy, of which Indonesia is an important pillar. The visit of the Minister of State for External Affairs reaffirms New Delhi's commitment to further strengthen the comprehensive strategic partnership between India and Indonesia.

Earlier in the day, Pabitra Margherita visited the National Memorial in Jakarta – a symbol of Indonesia's independence struggle.

After meeting CEOs of major Indian companies in Indonesia on Saturday, the minister wrote on Twitter, “Had fruitful talks with business leaders representing major Indian companies present in Indonesia. Ongoing investment projects in Indonesia were discussed. “Indonesia has emerged as India’s second largest trading partner in ASEAN.”

Subianto, who was sworn in as Indonesia's eighth president on Sunday, will replace Joko Widodo, who led the world's fourth-most populous country for the past decade.

Prabowo pledged to serve all Indonesians. In his address to the nation, he said, “We will keep the interests of the nation and the state above everything else.”
