“No water, poison was distributed”

Rahul Gandhi Said, “In Indore there was no water, poison was distributed and the administration kept sleeping in Kumbhakarni sleep. There is mourning in every house, the poor are helpless and on top of that, the arrogant statements of BJP leaders… Those whose homes were extinguished, they needed solace, but the government served them arrogantly.” He raised the question why action was not taken despite repeated complaints of the people? How did sewer water get into drinking supply? Why was the water supply not stopped in time? When will strict action be taken against responsible officers and leaders? He said that these questions are not ‘blatant’ but a demand for accountability.

The Leader of Opposition said, “Clean water is not a favor, it is the right to life… and the double engine of BJP, its careless administration and insensitive leadership are completely responsible for killing this right.”

“Madhya Pradesh has become the epicenter of misadministration.”

Describing the situation in Madhya Pradesh as the epicenter of misgovernance, Rahul Gandhi said that somewhere there are deaths due to cough syrup, somewhere there are rats killing children in government hospitals, and now there are deaths due to drinking water mixed with sewerage… whenever the poor die, Prime Minister Narendra Modi remains silent.

Jitu Patwari also targeted the government

Madhya Pradesh Congress President Jitendra (Jitu) Patwari also targeted the government and said that BJP wants to hide its corruption on the heads of officials. If they are targeting officials, they are hiding their sins. He said that Kailash Vijayvargiya should resign and FIR should be lodged against the Mayor. Along with this, FIR should also be lodged against the officers who are involved in this.

What is the whole matter?

In fact, since mid-December 2025, local people had complained to the Municipal Corporation that the tap water had a sewer-like smell and the color was also not normal. Despite this the water supply was not stopped. The result was that people kept drinking the same water under compulsion and within a few days the cases of vomiting, diarrhea, high fever and dehydration increased rapidly. Initial investigation has revealed that sewer water got mixed into the drinking water line, due to which bacterial infection spread and the situation went out of control.

Government action: notice, transfer and report in HC

Amidst increasing pressure, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav reviewed the matter. He directed to issue show cause notice to the Municipal Corporation Commissioner and Additional Commissioner, immediate transfer of the Additional Commissioner, and to withdraw the charge of water distribution from the Superintendent Engineer in Charge. CM said that after this incident, the drinking water system in the entire Madhya Pradesh will be reviewed and a time-bound corrective plan will be implemented. At the same time, the state government has also filed a status report in the Indore bench of Madhya Pradesh High Court. The court will hear the matter in detail on the 6th.

BJP leader’s statement became the cause of controversy

Meanwhile, the statement of BJP councilor Kamal Vaghela created a new controversy. He said, “We are all drinking the same water, we have no problem… 8 people have died on record.” The opposition has termed this statement as insensitive and irresponsible.
