Indore Water Crisis: The reputation of Indore, the cleanest city in the country, is now being tarnished by the reputation of ‘poisonous’ There is a deep water stain. Latest lab tests have confirmed that contaminated drinking water was the cause of the devastation in Bhagirathpura area. So far 14 people have died due to diarrhea outbreak in Indore and more than 1400 people have been affected by it.
The test results have proved that there are deficiencies in the drinking water supply system in some parts of the financial capital of Madhya Pradesh, which led to this accident. Indore’s Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO) Dr Madhav Prasad Hasani told a news agency that a lab test conducted by a medical college in the city has confirmed that the water was contaminated due to a leakage in a pipeline in the Bhagirathpura area, and the news of the spread of the disease came from there.
Leakage in pipeline near toilet
Leakage was found in the main drinking water pipeline near a police post in Bhagirathpura, which was located near a toilet. Due to this leakage, the water supply got contaminated, which led to the problem of spread of infection in the area. Officials have started closely inspecting the pipeline and conducting a survey to ensure that there is no leakage in any other pipeline.
Water sample testing and precautionary measures
Additional Chief Secretary Sanjay Dubey told the news agency, “We are examining the entire water supply pipeline in Bhagirathpura to find out if there is any further leakage.” He said that supply of clean water has been started in the houses of this area on Thursday, but as a precaution, people have been advised to drink boiled water only. “We have also taken water samples and sent them for testing,” Dubey said.
Plan to prepare SOP
Taking a lesson from the water tragedy in Bhagirathpura, senior officers said that a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) will be issued across the state to prevent such incidents in future. On the instructions of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, Dubey visited Bhagirathpura to take stock of the situation and talked to officials.

Survey conducted by health department
A health department official said that on Thursday, 1714 houses of Bhagirathpura were surveyed, in which 8571 people were examined. Of these, 338 people were found to have mild symptoms of vomiting and diarrhea, who were treated at home. The official said that in the eight days since the outbreak of the disease, 272 patients were admitted to local hospitals, out of which 71 have been discharged so far. Currently 201 patients are admitted in hospitals, out of which 32 have been kept in Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
