INDW vs AUSW: Poor batting cost India dearly in the last two matches: Harmanpreet Kaur
Hobart. Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur on Friday admitted that she faced consecutive defeats in the first two ODIs against Australia due to poor batting. This is the Indian team’s first 50-over series after becoming world champions in November last year.
India made a great start by defeating Australia 2-1 in the T20 International. But on Sunday, they lost the first two ODIs with one match remaining. Both the teams are playing all-format series which will be decided on the basis of points. A Test will also be played after the ODI series.
After the five-wicket defeat in the second ODI, Harmanpreet said, “We did not bat well. As a group, we decided to bat first and score more than 300 because the pitch was much better than the pitch in the last match. But unfortunately we made the same mistakes again. We lost wickets continuously and could not score much runs.
Harmanpreet said, “Whether we bat first or chasing the target, we have to bat very well because whenever we bat well, we are in a good position. We did not bat well in the last two matches and it cost us. Hopefully we will do this in the next match.” Australia captain Alyssa Healy will play her last match on Sunday before retiring.
“I am very happy with the result,” he said. It was one of those games where I thought they fell well short of getting a good score, but at the same time it was frustrating for us because I thought we could have got them out a little bit earlier. But restricting them to 250 runs on such a wicket was a brilliant effort by our team.
