Chhattisgarh:- UNICEF representative in India Ms. Cynthia McCaffrey paid a courtesy visit to Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai at Mantralaya Mahanadi Bhawan today. During this, there was a detailed discussion on maternal and child health, eradication of malnutrition and overall development of children. Chief Minister Shri Sai said that the state government is giving top priority to maternal and child health and child nutrition and coordinated efforts of all departments are necessary for permanent improvement in these areas. Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai said that healthy mothers and healthy children are the strongest foundation of developed Chhattisgarh. He said that all the concerned departments including Health and Family Welfare, Women and Child Development, Panchayat and Rural Development and Tribal Development Department should prepare a coordinated and result-oriented action plan with the technical support of UNICEF, so that infant mortality rate, maternal mortality rate and malnutrition can be reduced. The Chief Minister said that the impact of the schemes will increase only when various departments work with common goals and coordinated methodology. He asked the officials to prepare a multi-sectoral strategy so that the benefits of health and nutrition related schemes reach the last person effectively and ensure qualitative improvement in the nutritional level of children.

On this occasion, Chief Minister Shri Vishnu Dev Sai warmly welcomed Ms. Cynthia McCaffrey by gifting her a shawl and ‘Nandi’, the symbol of Chhattisgarh’s cultural identity. Ms. McCaffrey presented a special commemorative postage stamp issued by the Indian Postal Department to the Chief Minister to commemorate the completion of 75 years of UNICEF in India. UNICEF India Representative Ms. Cynthia McCaffrey greeted the Chief Minister by calling him Jai Johar. He said that Chhattisgarh is a state of natural beauty, rich culture and simple people. He said that UNICEF has been working with the state government for a long time in the field of maternal and child health, nutrition and child protection. He expressed confidence that with the joint efforts of the state government and UNICEF, the future of the children of the state will become more safe, healthy and prosperous. Cabinet members, Chief Secretary Mr. Vikassheel, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister Mr. Subodh Kumar Singh, Head of UNICEF in Chhattisgarh Ms. Seema Kumar, Mr. Anil Gulati and Dr. Bal Paritosh Das were present in the meeting.
