Injury blow for SA ahead of T20 WC – Tezzbuzz

Johannesburg,  Jan 23: South Africa have made changes to their squad for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 after key batters were ruled out due to injuries. Tony de Zorzi and Donovan Ferreira will miss the tournament, prompting the inclusion of Ryan Rickelton and Tristan Stubbs in the Proteas’ 15-man squad.

De Zorzi, who had been struggling with a hamstring injury, has not recovered in time, and Ferreira suffered a fractured clavicle during a recent SA20 match. Both players will also sit out South Africa’s upcoming T20 series against the West Indies.

Cricket South Africa confirmed that David Miller remains a fitness doubt after suffering an adductor muscle injury; his participation in the World Cup is subject to a final fitness test.

The Proteas, who are runners-up from the 2024 T20 World Cup, will open their 2026 campaign against Canada in Ahmedabad on February 9. South Africa’s group also includes Afghanistan, New Zealand and the UAE.

The revised squad is now captained by Aiden Markram and features key players including Quinton de Kock, Kagiso Rabada, Anrich Nortje, Marco Jansen and George Linde, with Rickelton and Stubbs bolstering the batting lineup amid injury setbacks.
