This ultimatum was made public by Abdullah Al Jaber, member secretary of Inquilab Mancho from Shahbagh area of Dhaka on Sunday night. The organization put forth four major demands, the most controversial of which is the cancellation of work permits of Indian citizens working in India.

24 hours and 24 days ultimatum

Inquilab Mancho has said that the trial of the entire gang involved in Hadi’s murder, the shooters, the conspirators, the helpers, the absconders and those who gave shelter, should be completed within 24 days. The organization alleges that if within 24 hours no concrete statement is made regarding the presence of Hadi’s killers in India or they are not brought back, then the work permits of Indians in Bangladesh should be cancelled.

Threat of international case against India

The organization has also threatened that if India does not hand over the killers allegedly hiding in India, a case will be filed against India in the International Court of Justice (ICJ). Apart from this, the organization has also demanded to identify and arrest ‘fascist elements’ hiding in civil-military intelligence.

Did Hadi’s killers flee to India?

This controversy deepened when Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) claimed that the two main accused in the Hadi murder case had fled to India from Haluaghat border of Mymensingh and entered Meghalaya. However, this claim has been completely rejected by the BSF deployed in Meghalaya. BSF IG OP Upadhyay Said that there is no evidence of border crossing and the allegations of Bangladesh Police are baseless and misleading. He clarified that infiltration of any such suspect into India has not been confirmed.

New twist in India-Bangladesh tension

Meanwhile, India reacted strongly after the lynching of two Hindu citizens in Bangladesh. External Affairs Ministry spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that the continuous violence against minorities is a matter of grave concern for India and the culprits should be punished. However, Bangladesh’s Foreign Ministry rejected India’s concerns, saying sporadic criminal incidents were being deliberately portrayed as ‘systematic oppression’ against Hindus. Dhaka alleged that in some circles, an anti-Bangladesh atmosphere is being created in India by exaggerating these incidents.

Violence on the streets after Hadi’s death

It is noteworthy that after the death of Osman Hadi on December 18, his supporters took to the streets. The protesters carried out arson, vandalism and also targeted the offices of media organizations in many areas including Dhaka. Since then, political instability and anti-India slogans are continuously increasing in Bangladesh. At present, the ultimatum of Inquilab Manchas has created new tension in India-Bangladesh relations. Now all eyes are on how the Dhaka government deals with this challenge in the next 24 hours.
