Inside the Overnight Strike Is This the Most Significant Blow to Iran’s Leadership Yet?:
In a major escalation of the ongoing regional conflict, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have claimed a series of high-profile “eliminations” following intense overnight airstrikes in Iran’s capital. The most significant names surfacing in the aftermath are Ali Larijanithe Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, and Gholamreza Soleimanithe commander of the Basij paramilitary force.
The IDF confirmed that a targeted strike, guided by precise military intelligence, successfully eliminated Gholamreza Soleimani. As the head of the Basij for the past six years, Soleimani was a central figure in Iran’s internal security apparatus. His death represents a massive blow to the IRGC’s ability to manage domestic dissent and ground-level operations.
However, a cloud of uncertainty still hangs over the fate of Ali Larijani. While Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that Larijani was “eliminated,” other reports suggest the situation is still being reviewed. Larijani, a veteran politician and long-time confidante of the late Supreme Leader, is considered a “de facto leader” in Tehran’s current power structure. If his death is confirmed, it would mark the highest-level political assassination since the start of the war on February 28.
These strikes signal a clear shift in strategy: moving beyond military infrastructure to directly target the “centers of power” within the Iranian regime. With air supremacy reportedly established over much of the country, the IDF appears focused on dismantling the leadership that sustains the current administration. As Tehran remains silent on these claims, the world waits to see how this vacuum at the top will impact the volatile frontlines.
