Inspector arrested red handed for taking bribe of Rs 30,000 by Vigilance Bureau

Punjab Vigilance Bureau: Punjab Vigilance Bureau has arrested SHO of Police Station Division No. 4, Ludhiana during the ongoing campaign against corruption in the state. Inspector Gurjit Singh, posted as Inspector, has been arrested red-handed while taking a bribe of Rs 30,000.

Official spokesperson of Vigilance Bureau said that the said accused has been arrested on the basis of a complaint lodged by a resident of Noorwala Road, Ludhiana.

He further informed that the son of the complainant was arrested in a case registered in Division No. 4, Ludhiana. The complainant alleged that when she went to meet her son at Police Station Division No. 4, Ludhiana, her son told her that the police had brutally beaten her and also took away her gold ring and silver bracelet. In this regard, the accused inspector asked for a bribe of Rs 35,000 to return the gold ring and silver bracelet, but the complainant recorded the entire conversation of demanding the bribe.

The team caught by laying a trap

The complainant did not want to pay the bribe, so he approached the Vigilance Bureau, Ludhiana. After preliminary investigation on his complaint, the Vigilance Bureau team laid a trap, during which the accused inspector was arrested red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 30,000 from the complainant in the presence of two government witnesses.

In this regard, a case has been registered against the accused in Vigilance Bureau police station, Ludhiana under the Prevention of Corruption Act and further investigation is going on.
