Desk:Vigilance has taken major action in Muzaffarpur for the second consecutive day. Special Vigilance Unit arrested Inspector Bhaskar Kumar Mishra of Sadar police station red handed while taking a bribe of Rs 15 thousand. The arrest took place while taking money from a victim. A day earlier, the District Agriculture Officer was also caught taking a bribe of Rs 50 thousand. These actions have created a stir in the police and administrative departments. 2019 batch Sub Inspector (SI) Bhaskar Kumar Mishra, posted at Sadar police station, has been arrested red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 15,000. The arrest took place at a tea shop located just outside the police station premises.

The case pertains to the kidnapping of a child, which was registered in Sadar police station area. Sub Inspector Bhaskar Kumar Mishra was the investigator (IO) of this kidnapping case. The plaintiff in the case, Aman Kumar, said that his brother’s name had come up as a suspect in the kidnapping case. Inspector Bhaskar Mishra had demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 in return for removing the name from the case diary, giving convenience to the accused and weakening the case diary. Aman Kumar did not want to give bribe, but he was being continuously pressurized. After much bargaining, the bribe amount was fixed at Rs 30 thousand. It was decided to pay this amount in 2 installments. Meanwhile, Aman Kumar lodged a written complaint in the surveillance department office in Patna. After receiving the complaint, the department secretly verified the case, which confirmed that bribe was demanded.

On Wednesday, as soon as Aman Kumar reached Sadar police station to give Rs 15,000 as the first installment of bribe, the surveillance team was also deployed there in plain clothes. Inspector Bhaskar Mishra called Aman to a tea shop located next to the police station. As soon as the inspector took the bribe amount in his hand, the surveillance team already in ambush caught him. The bribe money was recovered. DSP Sanjay Kumar of the surveillance department said that the arrest was made near the Sadar police station premises. He confirmed that Inspector Bhaskar Kumar Mishra has been caught red-handed and the bribe amount has also been recovered from him. After the arrest, the team has taken the accused officer with them to Patna, where he is being interrogated and further legal process will be completed under the Prevention of Corruption Act. The action has once again raised question marks on the functioning of the police.
