Instead of taking cognizance of hate speech and complaints, the Election Commission itself wallowed in the mud and tainted democracy: Pawan Kheda
New Delhi. AICC Media and Publicity Department Chairman Pawan Khera said that our country is going through a terrible phase, where attempts are being made to hijack democracy. Our leader Rahul Gandhi had held a special press conference, in which he told about the ‘vote theft’ being done in different states of the country. In these, examples of Haryana, Maharashtra, Karnataka were given. Democracy is being captured by using vote theft, SIR and delimitation as weapons. This is a three-pronged attack.

Pawan Khera said that when Narendra Modi suffered a setback in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, a conspiracy was hatched to destroy the electoral system. Questions are often raised against us, but the answer is that wherever they have spread mud, lotus has grown there. This is the pattern of Narendra Modi and BJP – if the country does not pay attention to this, this mud will spread everywhere.

He said that the taint of ‘vote theft’ is being spread in the country. It is the job of the Election Commission to stop this mud from spreading. But instead of taking cognizance of hate speech and complaints, the Election Commission itself got stuck in the mud and tainted democracy. We fought strongly against TMC in Bengal, campaigned against them, but after the election results, when the matter of rigging came to light, our leader Rahul Gandhi ji made his principled stand clear with morality. I congratulate our leader for speaking of principles at a time when such politics is on the verge of ending.
Pawan Khera said that just as lakhs of votes were added by targeting in Maharashtra, similarly lakhs of voters were targeted and deleted in West Bengal and Assam. We have been giving you examples of many states, which prove that the voter list and the electoral process are disappearing. Democracy’s watchman Gyanesh Gupta himself is carrying thieves on his shoulders to the assembly, all this is happening in front of you. This is a dark chapter, a stain in the history of democracy.
He said that ever since the results came, the period of violence has started in West Bengal, but instead of stopping them, they are being instigated further from Delhi. In West Bengal, offices of opponents are being burnt, people are being killed, shops are being demolished, obscene songs are being played by DJs. BJP is not celebrating victory in West Bengal, it is committing sheer hooliganism and intimidating people. Narendra Modi should behave as per his position and stop this violence.
Pawan Khera said that BJP says that it does not need Muslim voters. BJP rejected Muslim voters and Muslim voters rejected BJP. In such a situation, when Muslims voted for a secular party, BJP started complaining about that too. Meaning BJP is now trying to color the votes also. The question is – does Baba Saheb’s Constitution allow such thinking? While the Congress party has always been giving representation to all the people, the BJP has been spewing venom against one community in a targeted manner. The truth is that BJP wants to weaken every section of the country including Dalits, backward classes, tribals, women.
He said that in West Bengal, the margin of victory in seats where voters were deprived of their right to vote is less than the number of SIR deletions. That means everything is in front – milk of milk and water of water. In such a situation, we feel that re-polling should be held on those seats, because many of these people are still waiting for the right to vote. We have full faith in the Supreme Court that it will deliver justice keeping the Constitution in mind.
