Delhi Weather: Extreme heat continues in Delhi-NCR, situation will worsen in the coming days; Know IMD updates

The scorching heat wave now seems to be intensifying in Delhi-NCR. According to the Meteorological Department, the situation may worsen in the coming days and people may have to face heat wave with intense heat. The weather in the capital remained relatively cool on Tuesday (April 21) morning. The temperature was recorded at around 24 degrees Celsius at 6 am. Light coolness and clear sky definitely gave some relief to the people, but this relief is not going to last long. As the day progresses, the temperature will rise rapidly and extreme heat will be felt by afternoon.

According to the data of the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heat wave in April this year, which will happen for the fifth time in the last 16 years. The department has warned that heat wave conditions may arise from this week itself, due to which a yellow alert has been issued. It is noteworthy that the month of April 2022 was the hottest till date, when there was heat wave for 11 days in the entire month. A similar situation is expected to arise this time too.

According to the Meteorological Department, the temperature will rise rapidly in the afternoon, which can cause extreme heat and heatwave-like conditions. While strong sunlight and heat will trouble people during the day, there is definitely hope of getting some relief in the evening. However, the effect of heat will continue even at night and the temperature will not go down much.

According to the Meteorological Department, at present there is no possibility of rain, due to which people will have to endure the heat throughout the week. During this period, the humidity level in the air will be around 24 percent, while the wind speed is expected to be around 8 kilometers per hour. Talking about temperature, the maximum temperature is likely to remain around 39 to 40 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is likely to be around 24 degrees. The effect of heat wave can be especially visible during the afternoon, due to which it can be difficult to go out.

Temperatures have been recorded much higher than normal in different parts of the capital, due to which people are facing intense heat. The maximum day temperature recorded in Safdarjung was 39.5 degrees Celsius, which is 2.7 degrees more than normal. The minimum temperature was 22.8 degrees Celsius, which is 0.8 degrees more than normal. Humidity levels were recorded between 20 to 67 percent, due to which the effect of humidity was also felt.

Talking about other areas, the maximum temperature was recorded at 41.3 degrees Celsius in Ridge area and 40.2 degrees Celsius in Ayanagar. These figures clearly show that the heat is continuously showing its anger in the capital. According to the Meteorological Department, similar heat is likely to continue for the next four days. There are also chances of heat wave during this period, which may make it difficult to go out during the day.

Strong wind provided relief from pollution

Pollution levels have declined, due to which people are getting clean air to some extent. According to the Central Pollution Control Board, the average air quality index (AQI) of the capital was recorded at 181 on Monday, which falls in the ‘moderate’ category. Earlier on Sunday, AQI was 258, which means there has been a big improvement of 77 points in a day.

While on Sunday the AQI of nine areas had crossed 300 and were in the ‘very poor’ category, on Monday the AQI remained below 200 in all areas, showing a clear improvement in the situation. Experts believe that the increase in wind speed led to the spread of pollutant particles, which reduced the pollution level. However, this relief is not considered permanent. The Meteorological Department estimates that the air quality level may remain around this for the next two days. After this, change in AQI is possible again depending on the weather and wind direction.
