Internet services in India are cheapest in the world: Ashwini Vaishnav
New Delhi, March 11, 2026: Electronics and Information Technology Minister Ashwini Vaishna has said that internet services in India are one of the cheapest services in the world. He said that the internet rate in the country is about 25 times less than the global average of 2.59 per GB.
Responding to supplementary questions during Question Hour in the Lok Sabha today, Vaishnaw said that over the last decade, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has worked on three key fronts of digital inclusion through the Digital India initiative: expanding internet access, making internet services affordable and building a strong digital public infrastructure.
Vaishnav said that in 2014, only 25 crore people in India had internet connectivity and today this number has increased to about 103 crore users.
