iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Slim to Arrive With 120Hz LTPO OLED Displays: Report

Apple recently launched the iPhone 16 series during its ‘It’s Glowtime’ event on September 9, but speculation about the iPhone 17 series has already started. According to industry analyst Ross Young, the iPhone 17 series, expected to launch in the second half of 2025, could feature significant display upgrades for its non-Pro models.

Young claims that both the iPhone 17 and the redesigned iPhone 17 Slim will come with 1Hz to 120Hz variable refresh rate displays, a feature previously limited to Apple’s Pro models. Apple first introduced the 120Hz ProMotion display with the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max in 2021, and more recent models have used LTPO AMOLED screens, enabling features like an always-on display.

If these predictions are accurate, the iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Slim would be the first non-Pro models to adopt high-refresh-rate displays. This would be a significant upgrade, as the current iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus only offer 60Hz displays, while many cheaper Android phones already feature higher refresh rates.

In addition to the display improvements, the iPhone 17 Pro models are rumored to come with more advanced hardware. The iPhone 17 Pro Max could include 12GB of RAM and a vapor chamber cooling system, along with a new 2nm chipset from Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co (TSMC), further enhancing its performance. These upgrades are expected to give the iPhone 17 series a significant edge in both display technology and overall performance.
