iPhone Production By Tata Reaches Rs 40,000 Crore: 180% Jump In 12 Months!

In 2024, Tata Electronics Pvt Ltd (TEPL), a subsidiary of Tata Sons, made significant progress in iPhone production, contributing about 26% of India’s total iPhone output, according to Business Standard. This achievement follows TEPL’s acquisition of Wistron’s iPhone facility in Narsapura, Karnataka, for $125 million in October 2023.

TEPL’s Growth and Resilience: Record Production and Quick Recovery from Setback

The Narsapura plant experienced remarkable growth in 2024, with annual production surpassing Rs 40,000 crorereflecting a 180% increase from the previous year. Exports also saw a significant rise, growing by 125% to reach Rs 31,000 crore. In response to this expansion, TEPL boosted its workforce by 63%, increasing employee numbers from 19,000 in 2023 to 31,000 in 2024.

In September 2024, the company faced a setback when a major fire severely damaged its facility in Hosur, Tamil Nadu. Despite the fire, which took several days to extinguish, TEPL quickly rebounded and ramped up production to meet the growing demand.

TEPL’s Social Responsibility and Strategic Expansion in Electronics and Semiconductors

Committed to social responsibility, TEPL focuses on the Krishnagiri district, where it employs 85% women in its workforce. The company actively supports local community development through initiatives aimed at improving health, hygiene, and education.

TEPL plays a crucial role in India’s electronics sector, in addition to its iPhone production. In September 2024, the company signed an agreement with Taiwan’s Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC) to establish India’s first semiconductor fab in Gujarat. This collaboration will strengthen TEPL’s presence in both the electronics and semiconductor industries.
