IPL-19: LSG’s account opened due to Rishabh Pant’s captaincy innings, SRH defeated in a thrilling clash at home.

Hyderabad, 5 April. After the tightness of the bowlers led by experienced pacer Mohammed Shami (2-9), Rishabh Pant (68 not out, 50 balls, nine fours) played a captaincy inning full of responsibility. The result was that Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) opened their account in the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL-19) by defeating Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by five wickets in a thrilling battle that lasted till the last over here on Sunday.

Hyderabadi team reached 156 runs with the century partnership of Klaasen-Nitish.

After a poor start of 4-26, the Hyderabadi team, forced to bat first in front of its spectators at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Uppal, got the support of Heinrich Klaasen (62 runs, 41 balls, two sixes, five fours) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (56 runs, 33 balls, five sixes, three fours), between them, a century partnership of 116 runs on 63 balls for the fifth wicket took the score to 156 for nine wickets. Pant’s match-winning fifty, Markram’s useful innings too

Chasing the usual target, Lucknow Super Giants opener Mitchell Marsh (14 runs, 12 balls, two fours) did not stay long and fell victim to Ishan Malinga (1-37) in the fifth over. Harsh Dubey (2-18), however, did not allow Ayush Badoni (12 runs, nine balls, one four) and Abdul Samad (16 runs, 12 balls, two fours) to go far in the middle overs. Between these two batsmen, Nicholas Puran (one run) had also returned after being run out. But Pant remained firm. In this sequence, nine runs were needed to win in the last over and Jaydev Unadkat (0-50), who proved to be very expensive, gave his team its first win by hitting three fours.

First win for Lucknow and second defeat for Hyderabad.

It is noteworthy that while Lucknow had to face defeat at the hands of Delhi Capitals (DC) in its first match played at home, this was the second defeat of Sunrisers Hyderabad in three matches. After the defeat at the hands of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening match, Ishan Kishan and Co. defeated Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Kolkata.

Mo. Shami spoiled the start of Hyderabad by returning Abhishek and Head.

If we look at this match, SRH got off to a shaky start when ‘Player of the Match’ 35-year-old Shami dismissed the dangerous opening pair of Abhishek Sharma (zero) and Travis Head (seven runs) in his first two overs. On the other hand, captain Ishan Kishan (one run) was bowled by Prince Yadav (2-34), while aggressive batsman Liam Livingstone (14 runs, 20 balls, one six) also became the victim of Pant’s excellent wicketkeeping.

For the Hyderabad team, which was struggling after losing four wickets for 35 runs in the first 10 overs, Klaasen and Reddy followed the strategy of ‘attack is the best defence’ and took control of the situation with a century partnership. However, when M. Siddharth broke the partnership by returning Nitish in the 18th over, five batsmen were out again with a lead of 14 runs within the last 15 balls. In these, Avesh Khan took two wickets including Klaasen for 36 runs.
