IPL-19: Rahul Tewatia’s mistake was caught, he came against Punjab Kings with a bat wider than the prescribed standard.

A strange incident was seen during the Punjab Kings (PBKS) vs Gujarat Titans (GT) match in the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL-19) on Tuesday, when the Gujarat team’s batsman Rahul Tewatia came with a bat wider than the prescribed standard. However, the on-field umpires caught him immediately and the batsman had to call for another bat.

It is noteworthy that the host Punjab Kings won this match till the last over by three wickets with five balls remaining. Gujarat Titans team had reached 162 runs for six wickets. In reply, Punjab Kings scored 165 runs for seven wickets with the explosive half-century of Australian debutant batsman Cooper Connolly.

A unique drama was seen during the match when Rahul Tewatia came to bat in the innings of the Gujarat team captained by Shubman Gill. As soon as Rahul took guard, the on-field umpires stopped him.

While sharing the video of the incident, IPL broadcaster Star Sports India said that Tewatia’s bat failed in the routine gauge test. According to BCCI rules, the dimensions of the bat were more than the MCC and ICC standards, which could have given an unfair advantage. The umpires immediately asked him to change the bat and Tewatia had to get another bat before facing the first ball.

If seen, this was the first bat regulation violation of the IPL 2026 season, which sparked a lot of discussion among cricket fans. This strictness of BCCI is being done with the aim of preventing unfair advantage. Well, Tewatia faced 10 balls with the bat and scored unbeaten 11 runs with the help of one four.

Size of bat as per MCC rules

The bat consists of two parts, a handle and a blade. When the bottom of the handle is inserted, the overall length of the bat must not exceed 38 inches/96.52 cm. According to MCC rule 5.7.2, the blade of the bat should not exceed the prescribed size.
