IPL-19: Under the leadership of Tim David, champion RCB scored a mountain of runs, CSK’s third consecutive defeat.

Bengaluru, 5 April. The current champion Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) continued their campaign in the Tata Indian Premier League (IPL-19) and after scoring a mountain of runs under the leadership of the explosive Tim David (70 not out, 25 balls, eight sixes, three fours) on the home ground here on Sunday night, gave a big defeat to the five-time former champion Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by 43 runs.

The highest score of the current season was made due to the stormy fifties of Tim and Padikkal.

The home team, which was invited to bat first at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, gained momentum from the very beginning and apart from the stormy half-centuries of Kangaroo Tim David and Devdutt Padikkal (50 runs, 29 balls, two sixes, five fours), aggressive innings of all the other batsmen who came to the crease, they scored 250 runs for three wickets. This was RCB’s third highest score in IPL history as well as the highest score by any team in the current season.

The visiting team could not recover from the initial shock of Duffy and Bhuvi

In reply, Chennai team could never return to the contest after a poor start against Bhuvneshwar Kumar (3-41) and Jacob Duffy (2-44) and company. Ultimately, after the efforts of Sarfaraz Khan (50 runs, 25 balls, two sixes, eight fours), Prashant Veer (43 runs, 29 balls, one six, six fours) and Jamie Overton (37 runs, 16 balls, two sixes, four fours), the visiting team could reach 207 runs after losing all the wickets in 19.4 overs. Apart from Bhuvi and Duffy, Krunal Pandya and Abhinandan Singh took two wickets each.

RCB reached the top with second consecutive win

RCB has topped the points table with its second consecutive win and better net run rate. Chasing more than 200 runs, it had also defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by six wickets on the same ground on March 28. In the absence of injured former captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni, CSK team is lagging behind due to third consecutive defeat. Rituraj Gaikwad’s team, which had suffered a five-wicket defeat against Punjab Kings at its home ground Chepauk two days ago, was defeated by Rajasthan Royals by eight wickets in Guwahati.

Patidar and Tim David scored 99 runs in just 36 balls.

If we look at RCB’s innings, apart from ‘Player of the Match’ Tim David and Padikkal, captain Rajat Patidar (48 not out, 19 balls, six sixes, one four) hit sixes. Along with David, he scored 99 runs in 35 balls and played an important role in taking the team to 250 runs. Whereas openers Phil Salt (46 runs, 30 balls, two sixes, three fours) and Virat Kohli (28 runs, 18 balls, one six, two fours) showed sharp hands in the beginning.

score card

If seen, Chinnaswamy’s pitch was a bit slow, on which RCB batsmen looked fearless from the beginning. However, the beginning of the innings was slow and after 20 balls, the first four came from Virat’s bat. Not only this, Virat, who got life on a personal score of seven, despite showing speed, also became the victim of Anshul Kamboj in the fifth over (1-37).

Padikkal made quick half-century partnerships with Salt and Patidar

But Phil Salt and Padikkal together made the opposition bowlers helpless and 56 runs were added in just 37 balls. When Shivam Dubey returned Salt in the 11th over, Padikkal along with captain Patidar scored 58 runs in just 21 balls. With this, RCB’s run rate crossed the 10 runs per over mark for the first time in the innings.

Padikkal, however, was bowled while trying to play a ‘reverse scoop’ off Jamie Overton soon after completing his second consecutive half-century of the season by stealing a single off Henry. But the result of 62 runs scored between 11 and 15 overs was that RCB’s score reached 153 runs after 15 overs.

RCB scored 97 runs in the last 5 overs

After this the team scored 97 runs in the last five overs. During this, Patidar and Tim David started thrashing the opposition bowlers in such a way that the opposition bowlers looked exhausted. Patidar hit two sixes and a four in the fourth and last over of Khalil Ahmed.

Whereas David hit three sixes to Noor Ahmed in the 17th over. This Australian batsman also hit four sixes on Overton in the 19th over. In this way, the weaknesses of CSK’s bowling were once again exposed in front of a strong batting order.

Sanju, Gaikwad and Mhatre had returned within 30 runs.

After this, Chennai’s start got spoiled in front of the difficult target, when by the third over in front of Duffy and Bhuvi, Sanju Samson (nine runs, one six), captain Ruturaj Gaikwad (seven runs, one six) and Ayush Mhatre (one run) had returned within 30 runs. Although Sarfaraz improved the situation a bit with a quick fifty, Krunal returned Sarfaraz and Karthik Sharma (six runs) in the same over.

The only half-century partnership between Prashant Veer and Overton

After this, Prashant Veer along with Shivam Dubey (18 runs, 13 balls, one six, two fours) took the score beyond 100 and made the highest partnership of 57 runs for the seventh time with Overton. In the end, Anshul Kamboj (19 not out, 12 balls, one six, one four) took the team beyond 200. But his team remained far away from the target.

Monday’s match: Kolkata Knight Riders vs Punjab Kings (Kolkata, 7.30 PM).
