Before the Indian Premier League (IPL 2026), Riyan Parag is sure to be made the next captain of Rajasthan Royals. Parag will get this promotion after Sanju Samson goes to Chennai Super Kings. Let us tell you that in exchange of Samson’s trade, Rajasthan got two all-rounders, Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran.

24 year old Parag has already captained the Rajasthan team. Last season, Samson could not play eight matches due to injury and captained Rajasthan Royals in all those matches, in which only two wins were achieved. Parag scored at an average of 38.57 in those matches and played a career-best inning of 95 against Kolkata Knight Riders.

According to ESPNcricinfo, Parag was one of the few players who was interviewed by head coach Kumar Sangakkara before making him the captain. Rajasthan will start the next season with a new captain and a new head coach. Let us tell you that after the 2025 season, Rahul Dravid had left the responsibility of the post of coach. Last season, the team could win only four out of 14 matches and stood ninth in the points table.

Parag, who made his IPL debut in 2019, played all seven seasons for Rajasthan Royals. He has played all the matches of Rajasthan in the last two seasons. On the basis of performance, the 2024 season was his best, in which he scored 573 runs at an average of 52.09 and strike rate of 149.21. He has scored 1566 runs and taken 7 wickets in 84 matches for Rajasthan in IPL.

Samson was a part of the Rajasthan Royals team for 11 seasons and after the last IPL season, he had indicated that he wanted a change and wanted to be released from the Rajasthan team.
