IPL 2026: Arguing with the umpire cost DC’s Nitish Rana, why fine on CSK captain Ruturaj?

Chennai. After the match played between Delhi Capitals and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in IPL 2026, action has been taken against two big names. Delhi Capitals’ Nitish Rana and CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad both had to face fines in separate cases.

Action against Rana for arguing with the umpire

The biggest controversy during the match was seen in the 19th over of Delhi’s innings, when batsman Tristan Stubbs asked for permission to change his gloves due to sweat. This was a normal demand in the humid heat of Chennai, but the fourth umpire turned it down. After this the atmosphere became heated and as soon as Stubbs was out, Nitish Rana clashed with the umpire. This behavior was considered a violation of the IPL code of conduct. According to the IPL statement, ‘Nitish Rana has been fined 25 percent of his match fee and has also been given one demerit point.’ It was further said, ‘Rana violated Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with the use of offensive language during the match.’ However, Rana accepted his mistake and accepted the decision of the match referee.

  • Slow over rate trapped Gaikwad

On the other hand, Chennai Super Kings captain Ruturaj Gaikwad also could not escape the action. His team could not complete the overs in the stipulated time, due to which he had to pay a fine of Rs 12 lakh. According to IPL, ‘This was the team’s first mistake of the season, so Gaikwad was fined Rs 12 lakh.’ Slow over rate is considered a serious issue in the IPL and the punishment for repeated offenses can be even harsher.

    Match result and way forward

In this match, Chennai Super Kings performed brilliantly and won by 23 runs. This was his first win of this season. At the same time, Delhi Capitals had to face second consecutive defeat, due to which the pressure on the team has increased. Now the next match of Chennai team will be against Kolkata Knight Riders, where they will want to maintain their winning streak.
