IPL 2026 Auction:Young all-rounder Prashant Veer from Uttar Pradesh surprised everyone in the mini auction of IPL 2026. Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bought him for Rs 14.20 crore. With this price, Prashant became the most expensive uncapped player in the history of IPL.
Earlier this record was in the name of Avesh Khan, who was bought for Rs 10 crore in 2022. Prashant’s base price was only Rs 30 lakh, but in the bidding war, CSK left behind Sunrisers Hyderabad and Rajasthan Royals.
Who is Prashant Veer?
Prashant Veer is a 20 year old young cricketer coming from Amethi, Uttar Pradesh. He is an all-rounder who bowls left-arm spin and can also hit hard with the bat. Prashant made his T20 debut in 2023 with Uttar Pradesh team.
He is known for scoring fast runs and economical spin bowling in the middle order. CSK has seen him as a long-term replacement for Ravindra Jadeja, who was traded.
Great performance in domestic cricket
Prashant Veer was first identified with the Noida Super Kings team in the Uttar Pradesh T20 League (UP T20). There he scored 320 runs in 10 matches and took 8 wickets. His strike rate was more than 155, which shows his power hitting.
After this, Prashant did wonders in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy 2025. In 7 matches, he scored 112 runs at a strike rate of around 169 and took 9 wickets. His economy rate was only 6.76, which is the best in T20. These performances caught the eye of IPL teams. CSK had even called him in the trial.
Why special election for CSK?
Prashant can prove useful in the middle overs with both bat and ball. His left-arm spin will provide variety to the team and his ability to score quick runs lower down the order fits into CSK’s strategy.
Getting such a huge amount at the age of just 20 shows a glimpse of his future. Prashant is now ready to debut in IPL and fans hope that he will make CSK stronger.
