IPL, 2026: Chennai Super Kings set a target of 180 runs for Hyderabad, Pat Cummins took 3 wickets.
Chennai. Pat Cummins bowled disciplinedly and took three wickets but with the collective efforts of the batsmen, Chennai Super Kings scored 180 runs for seven wickets in the IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday. Hyderabad captain Cummins took three wickets for 28 runs.
Earlier, Chennai won the toss and decided to bat. Sanju Samson gave a great start to the team and scored 17 runs by hitting two fours and a six off Nitish Kumar Reddy in the first over. He hit three consecutive fours in the next over to Prafulla Hingse. Cummins came to bowl in the third over and got Samson caught behind the wicket by Ishan Kishan.
Urvil Patel hit two sixes on Cummins but lost his wicket on the ball of Saqib Hussain. Chennai captain Ruturaj Gaikwad added 42 runs for the third wicket with Karthik Sharma (32 runs in 19 balls). Karthik hit some mature shots which included a six to Hinge and a six to spinner Shivang Kumar.
Cummins tempted him with the ball going outside the off stump and after making an upper cut, he was caught by Nitish in the deep. After this, Gaikwad also dodged Cummins’ bouncer coming up to his chest and returned after scoring 15 runs in 21 balls by getting caught by Ishan Malinga in the deep.
Dewald Brevis (44 in 27 balls) and Shivam Dubey (26) added 59 runs for the fifth wicket to take Chennai to a good score. Brewis, who was struggling to find rhythm in this session, hit a six to Cummins and a six and a four to Nitish. This is his highest score of this season. Malinga took his wicket on a ball with a speed of 141 km.
