IPL 2026 countdown starts as BCCI prepares schedule announcement
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is set to unveil the schedule for the upcoming season of the IPL 2026 in phases, with the first set of fixtures expected to be announced by March 12.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia confirmed that the board plans to initially release the schedule for the first 20 days of the tournament. The remaining fixtures are likely to be revealed later as logistical arrangements are finalised.

Meanwhile, the cash-rich tournament is expected to begin on March 28 and the final will be played on May 31.
Franchises kick off preparations for the IPL 2026
Despite the wait for the full schedule, preparations for the highly anticipated tournament have already begun across several franchises. Teams have started assembling their squads and organizing training camps as players look to regain rhythm after the international season.

Among the early movers are Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings, who have kicked off their pre-season camps. Players and support staff from these teams have begun intensive practice sessions, focusing on fitness and team combinations ahead of the new season.
Meanwhile, Punjab Kings began their preparations earlier than most teams, holding a training camp in Abu Dhabi in early February before shifting their sessions to Dharamsala. The early start has allowed the franchise to work extensively with both domestic and international players ahead of the tournament.
Sunrisers Hyderabad also kicked off their pre-season activities on March 1, with domestic players participating in the initial practice sessions as the squad gradually assembles. Mumbai Indians have likewise begun their training routines.
With multiple teams already in camp and the first set of fixtures expected shortly, excitement is steadily building for IPL as franchises fine-tune their squads ahead of the new season.
With excitement building among fans, the announcement of the first set of matches is expected to set the stage for yet another blockbuster edition of the IPL, one of the most popular T20 leagues in the world.
