Players or owners… In whose account do the crores of rupees of IPL go? The team that loses the final will also be rich

IPL prize money: The IPL 2026 season has now reached its last and most exciting stage. This time there is going to be a tough competition between Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) for the glittering trophy. RCB had earned a direct ticket to the final by defeating Gujarat Titans in Qualifier-1. At the same time, Gujarat registered a resounding victory over Rajasthan Royals by 7 wickets and made it to the finals.

The interesting thing is that both the teams have won the IPL title once before. In such a situation, whichever team wins this final, it will achieve the honor of becoming champion for the second time. But it is not just about the glittering trophy, this time the winning team is also going to get huge prize money.

BCCI is opening the treasury

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has fixed a total prize money of more than Rs 46.5 crore for IPL 2026. The team that sweats throughout the year in the tournament and becomes champion will be given Rs 20 crore as reward.

Runner-up will also get Rs 13 crore

The runner-up team that misses the final race will also not return empty handed. The losing team in the title match will get a huge sum of Rs 13 crore as consolation and reward for their wonderful journey.

Money will also be showered on the teams reaching the playoffs

BCCI will reward not only the teams playing the finals, but also the remaining two teams that have made the journey till the playoffs.

  • Number three team: The team (Rajasthan Royals) that is out of the tournament after losing in Qualifier-2 will get Rs 7 crore.
  • Fourth team: The losing team in the eliminator match will be given a prize money of Rs 6.5 crores.

Note: No official prize money has been kept by BCCI for the teams ranked 5th to 10th in the points table. However, these franchises earn huge income through sponsorship, ticket sales and broadcasting rights.

How is this prize money distributed?

According to the rules of IPL, 50 percent of the total prize money received by any team is divided equally among the players, while the remaining 50 percent goes to the accounts of the franchise owners. It is clear from this rule that both the players and the team management should directly benefit from the success achieved on the field.

Orange and purple cap winners will also be showered with money

Apart from the rewards given to the teams, players who have shown outstanding individual performance throughout the season will also be rewarded. A total cash prize of up to Rs 1 crore will be given to the players who scored the most runs (Orange Cap) and took the most wickets (Purple Cap) as well as those who won other special awards.

How much has the IPL prize money changed from 2008 to 2026?

Since the start of IPL in 2008, the prize money of the champions has increased manifold. In the first two seasons, the winner used to get only Rs 4.8 crores, which has increased to Rs 20 crores today. It was reduced only in the year 2020.
