IPL 2026: Good news for RCB, Phil Salt fit but suspense increases regarding team selection
Salt became fit, increased strength of RCB, now a relief news has come out for Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), the first team to make it to the playoffs in IPL 2026. The team’s explosive opening batsman Phil Salt is now fully fit and ready to join the franchise. It is noteworthy that during the match against Delhi Capitals on April 18, Salt suffered a serious injury to the finger of his left hand while trying to save the boundary. The injury forced him off the field and he returned home to spend time with his family during his recovery. Now his return has boosted the morale of the team, which remains a strong contender to win the title. Clouds of doubt over the opening combination: Phil Salt’s return may be a good sign for the team, but it has also created a big headache for the team management. In Salt’s absence, England’s Jacob Bethel has been opening the innings with Virat Kohli for the last one month, but his performance has been quite disappointing. Bethel could score only 96 runs in seven innings and his highest score was only 27. However, there is still suspense about whether Salt will play in the league match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Friday or not. The team management will not want to take any risks just before the playoffs. The challenge increased due to the return of Venkatesh Iyer and Rajat Patidar. The confusion regarding team selection is not limited to opening only. Venkatesh Iyer, who played in place of Rajat Patidar in the last match, has presented his claim strongly by playing a brilliant inning of 73 not out against Punjab Kings. On the other hand, there is also good news about the team’s regular captain Rajat Patidar. Patidar, who was out of the last match due to being hit by a sharp bouncer from Karthik Tyagi, is now feeling much better and his comeback against Hyderabad is considered almost certain. In such a situation, it will be interesting to see who RCB gives a chance to in the playing-11 and who sits out. RCB has won 9 out of 13 matches so far this season under the leadership of Patidar and the team’s form looks quite balanced.
