Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) batting star Virat Kohli was seen sitting in the dugout despite not being an impact player in the IPL 2026 clash against the Mumbai Indians on April 12, Sunday at the Wankhede Stadium. Reports have been circulating around Kohli having an ankle niggle, rendering him unable to take the field. But is there any truth to the claims?
MI vs RCB, IPL 2026: Is Virat Kohli injured?
The 37-year-old, who is the leading run-getter in IPL history, added 120 runs off only 65 deliveries with Phil Salt against the Mumbai Indians at the raucous atmosphere of the Wankhede Stadium. However, the 37-year-old lacked rhythm and could not sustain the momentum as he always does on most occasions. Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya dismissed him in the 15th over of the innings for 50 off 37 deliveries. Tim David was the subbed out player for pacer Rasikh Dar but Kohli was also seen outside the ground.

Phil Salt, Rajat Patidar the catalysts the Royal Challengers Bengaluru make 240 against Mumbai Indians
While Salt was their early enforcer, Rajat Patidar, who walked out after the 28-year-oldβs dismissal, went hard from the outset, allowing no respite for the home side. The veteran cricketer was 33 off 8 at one stage and got to his half-century only in 17 deliveries, making it the second-fastest half-century by an RCB batter. Patidar was dismissed by Mitchell Santer for a 20-ball 53.
While the Mumbai Indians had strung some good overs towards the end, Tim David finished the innings with a six to take the Royal Challengers to 240/4 in their stipulated 20 overs. While Mumbai Indians started decently, the five-time champions have slid towards their third consecutive defeat and their first at home in IPL 2026. Meanwhile, the Royal Challengers have bounced back well from their defeat to the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati.
