IPL 2026: Iyer and Priyansh’s half-centuries, Punjab set Delhi a target of 211 runs.
Hospice. With half-centuries from captain Shreyas Iyer and opener Priyansh Arya, Punjab Kings scored 210 runs for five wickets against Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League on Monday. Iyer played an unbeaten inning of 59 runs in 36 balls with three sixes and five fours, while Priyansh scored 56 runs in 33 balls with six sixes and two fours. Iyer made a partnership of 83 runs for the third wicket with Cooper Connolly (38) while Priyansh also gave a fast start to the team by adding 78 runs for the first wicket with Prabhsimran Singh (18).
For Delhi, Madhav Tiwari took 40 wickets while Mitchell Starc took two wickets each for 57 runs. After losing the toss and opting to bat, Punjab Kings got a fast start by Priyansh and Prabhsimran Singh (18) adding 72 runs without losing any wicket in the power play. Priyansh started with two sixes on Mitchell Starc while Prabhasimran also hit a four on the fast bowler, resulting in 22 runs in the first over.
Priyansh hit two sixes on Lungi Ngidi and also sent Mukesh Kumar’s ball to the audience. He completed his half-century in 24 balls with one run off Aaqib Nabi. However, after this, Prabhasimran, while trying to pull Mukesh’s ball, got caught by Aaqib at deep backward square leg. As soon as Captain Iyer came, he hit two fours on consecutive balls of Aaqib and then hit a six on Ngidi. Madhav Tiwari gave the second blow to Punjab by getting Priyansh caught by Sahil Parakh.
He hit six sixes and two fours in his 33-ball innings. Iyer and Connolly then took the innings forward. Punjab’s century of runs was completed in the 10th over. Connolly started with a four off Starc while Iyer also hit a four off Tiwary. Iyer hit Ngidi while Connolly hit a six on Starc. Punjab scored 149 runs for two wickets in 15 overs.
Connolly tried to increase the run rate with fours and sixes off consecutive balls from Ngidi. Iyer completed his half-century in 32 balls with a six off Tiwari. However, Connolly was caught by David Miller at deep mid-wicket off Tiwari’s ball. He hit three fours and two sixes in his 27-ball innings. After this, Starc sent Marcus Stoinis (01) and Shashank Singh (00) to the pavilion on consecutive balls. Suryansh Shedge took the team’s score beyond 200 runs in the 19th over with two sixes and a four on Starc.
