With the tournament now at its crucial juncture, both the teams have included new faces in place of injured and unavailable players. While Chennai has expressed confidence in domestic talent, Bengaluru has included an experienced foreign gun bowler.
Why were Khalil Ahmed and Nuwan Thushara out?
Khalil Ahmed (CSK): This is a big blow for Chennai. The team’s main left-arm fast bowler Khalil Ahmed has been ruled out of the entire season due to injury. Khalil suffered a serious muscle strain during the high-voltage match against Kolkata Knight Riders at the Chepauk Stadium on 14 April. According to the medical report, he will take a long time to recover, which has caused serious damage to Chennai’s bowling attack.
Nuwan Thushara (RCB): The case of Sri Lankan fast bowler Nuwan Thushara was a little different. In fact, due to not being able to pass the fitness test (2 km run), the Sri Lankan Cricket Board had refused to give him a No Objection Certificate (NOC). Thushara also went to court against this, but now he has withdrawn his legal case. Since a major part of the IPL has ended, he apologized to the board and decided to withdraw from this season.

Who are Kuldeep Yadav and Richard Gleeson?
Kuldeep Yadav (CSK): In place of Khalil Ahmed, Chennai has included domestic medium pacer Kuldeep Yadav in its team for Rs 30 lakh. Kuldeep made his IPL debut for Rajasthan Royals in 2021. Although he has experience of only 3 matches, but this team captained by Dhoni hopes that Kuldeep will be useful to the team with his accurate bowling.
Richard Gleeson (RCB): Bengaluru, betting on experience, has signed England fast bowler Richard Gleeson for Rs 1.6 crore. Gleeson has experience in international cricket (6 T20, 9 wickets) as well as IPL. Interestingly, he has been a part of big teams like Chennai and Mumbai in the seasons of 2024 and 2025.
