MI vs LSG, IPL 2026: Lucknow Super Giants bring fire with the bat but so do the Mumbai Indians

With the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) batting unit coming under fire, they changed their opening pair again, with Mitchell Marsh and Josh Inglis opening. Inglis, playing his first game, managed only 13 runs before perishing to Allah Ghazanfar. But Nicholas Pooran and Marsh exploded thereafter, with the former bringing up his half-century off only 16 deliveries. However, Corbin Bosch, who had replaced Trent Boult, dismissed Marsh (44) and Pooran (63) in the same over to peg the Super Giants back. Rishabh Pant went and made a 10-ball 15 before perishing and the Super Giants could not capitalise much despite Jasprit Bumrah delivering two no-balls in an over. It turned out that LSG managed only one boundary in the last three overs as the Mumbai Indians came back brilliantly to restrict the visitors to 228 in 20 overs.

Rohit, playing his first game after missing five consecutive, joined hands with Rickelton as the opening partnership of 143 in 10.5 overs killed the game for the Super Giants on a fantastic batting surface. Rohit missed out on a well-deserved hundred and despite losing Suryakumar Yadav (12) and Tilak Varma (11), the five-time champions won with 8 balls to spare.

MI vs LSG, IPL 2026: Can Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants still qualify for the playoffs?

After Monday’s game, Mumbai Indians have four games left, while the Super Giants have five. Winning the remaining four will take Mumbai to 14 points, while LSG can also reach a maximum of only 14. Nevertheless, it may still not be enough, given Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Rajasthan Royals and SunRisers Hyderabad are already on 12 points, while Punjab Kings are on 13.

To reach playoffs, a team needs a minimum of 16 points. Hence, both Mumbai and Lucknow will need massive favours from other teams as well to sneak a spot in the playoffs.
