IPL 2026 points table: SRH snatches top position from PBKS, big upset in points table
Delhi: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) has caused a big upset in the points table by defeating Punjab Kings (PBKS). In the match played at Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad performed brilliantly and snatched the number-1 crown from Punjab. The Punjab team, which has been showing strong performance since the beginning of the season, remained on top for a long time, but after this match it had to accept second place.

Hyderabad’s explosive batting
Batting first, Hyderabad adopted an aggressive style. Heinrich Klaasen and Ishan Kishan put the team in a strong position by scoring quick half-centuries. Thanks to the aggressive innings of both the batsmen, the team scored a huge score of 235 runs in 20 overs, which proved to be the turning point of the match.
Punjab’s poor start became the reason for the defeat
Punjab’s chase of the target had a very disappointing start. The team lost the wickets of Shreyas Iyer, Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya on the score of just 23 runs. Due to the initial setbacks, the team came under pressure and then kept lagging behind in the entire match.
However, Cooper Connolly continued to fight till the end and even scored a brilliant century, but his innings did not prove to be enough to lead the team to victory.
Big change in marks table
With this victory, Hyderabad has 14 points after 7 wins and 4 losses in 11 matches. On the basis of better net run rate (+0.737), the team has now reached the top of the table. Its position in the playoffs has become stronger and the next win can almost get it qualification.
At the same time, Punjab has suffered its third consecutive defeat. It has 13 points with 6 wins in 10 matches and has slipped to second place.
Excitement increased in the playoff race
Even after this phase of the league, the picture of the playoffs is not completely clear. All the teams in the top four, including Royal Challengers Bangalore and Rajasthan Royals, are in tough competition. Bengaluru has scored 12 points by registering 6 wins in 9 matches, while Rajasthan also has 12 points in 10 matches, but the difference remains on the basis of net run rate.
