The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has taken a big decision regarding the knockout matches of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026. This change has surprised the cricket fans, because this time the final match will not be played at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, but at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
Sports News: Big news has come out regarding the knockout matches of the 2026 season of the Indian Premier League, which has increased both the excitement and discussion among the fans. According to reports, this time the ‘Grand Finale’ of IPL will not be played in M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, but in the world’s largest cricket stadium. The venue chosen for the final is Narendra Modi Stadium, which is known for its huge capacity and modern facilities.
IPL 2026 Final will be held in Ahmedabad
This time the final match of IPL 2026 will be played in the world’s largest cricket stadium, Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. This decision is also special because last season’s winning team Royal Challengers Bengaluru had won the title for the first time in IPL 2025 and it was expected that the final match would be held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.
But due to security and administrative reasons the venue has been changed. According to BCCI sources, security and event related concerns had increased due to the recent “MLA ticket controversy” in Karnataka. For this reason, the board took a big decision and shifted the final match to Ahmedabad. According to reports, this controversy had raised many questions regarding the transparency of the event and the ticket distribution process, due to which the board decided to take extra precautions.
What was the MLA ticket controversy?
The controversy started when a demand was raised that MLAs should be given special ticket quota for IPL matches. The proposal was to give at least 5 tickets to every MLA, so that they could watch the match without standing in line. After this, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar gave a statement that MLAs and MPs will be given 3 tickets each.
However, after this decision, allegations regarding ticket misuse were also made, due to which the matter became a subject of political debate. Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara rejected these allegations and said that the tickets are completely online and non-transferable, hence there is no possibility of misuse.
Other venues for knockout matches
Not only the final of IPL 2026, but the venues of other knockout matches have also been changed:
- Qualifier 1: To be played in Dharamshala
- Eliminator: Will be held in Mullanpur (Chandigarh)
- Qualifier 2: Will also be played in Mullanpur only
- Final: Will be held at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad
By hosting the knockout matches in new and beautiful venues like Dharamshala Cricket Stadium and Mullanpur (Chandigarh), BCCI has given a big platform to even small cities. Dharamshala’s cool climate and Himalayan backdrop make it one of the most beautiful cricket stadiums, while Mullanpur’s modern infrastructure is establishing it as an emerging cricket hub.
