Sanjeev Goenka said that it is not right to judge Pant on the basis of his one bad season. He attributed the team’s poor performance to players’ injuries. According to Goenka, if the captain does not have his four key bowlers available, then it is wrong to expect better performance from him.
LSG bought Pant for 27 crores
Actually, Lucknow Super Giants had bought Pant in the mega auction of IPL 2025 for a huge amount of Rs 27 crore. But he could not perform as per this price. Pant scored only 269 runs in 13 innings in the entire season and the team also missed a place in the playoffs for the second consecutive year.
The team’s trust in the captain remains intact
However, despite these figures, Goenka still has faith in his captain. He said that Pant plays for the team with complete honesty and hard work and always tries to give his 100 percent. In such a situation, it would be wrong to expect anything more from them.
Goenka also reacted laughingly to the ongoing speculations regarding retention. He said that such news circulating on social media is only for views and has no basis. He made it clear that the franchise is completely positive about Pant.
If we talk about Pant’s IPL career, he has scored 3553 runs in 125 matches so far. His average is 34.16 and strike rate is 147.61, which reflects his aggressive batting style.
Now all eyes are on IPL 2026, where Pant will have a big chance to prove himself. Lucknow Super Giants will start their campaign on April 1 against Delhi Capitals at the Ekana Stadium, Lucknow.
Overall, the team management has made it clear that their faith in Pant remains intact. The coming season is going to prove to be very important not only for him but for the entire team.
