IPL 2026: Will Jacks and Mitchell Santner to miss KKR clash in a huge blow for MI

In a massive blow to Mumbai Indians, their two overseas all rounders Mitchell Santner and Will Jacks will be missing out on the opening clash against Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2026.

Double setback for MI

Both players have not joined the MI camp and are expected to link up with the squad soon. The development was confirmed by head coach Mahela Jayawardene in the pre match press conference.

“Will Jacks and Mitch (Santner) have asked for an extended break, so they will join the team pretty soon,” he said.

Both the players were part of the recently concluded T20 World Cup 2026, which explains the delay in their arrival.

Will Jacks, known for his aggressive batting and handy off spin, played a key role in England’s run to the semi-finals. He picked up four Player of the Match awards, scoring 226 runs in eight matches and also taking nine wickets with the ball.

Mitchell Santner, meanwhile, was captaining New Zealand in the tournament. The side made it to the final but missed out on the title. Santner’s experience as an all rounder and his role in MI’s campaign last season makes his absence significant.

Replacement options in focus

With both players unavailable, Mumbai Indians will have to adjust their plans for the opening game. They still have options in the squad, but replacing two experienced all-rounders at once won’t be easy.

West Indian all-rounder Sherfane Rutherford most likely to be making his way into XI.
