At which number will Cameron Green bat in IPL 2026? Coach Abhishek Nair confirmed

Three-time Indian Premier League (IPL) champion Kolkata Knight Riders surprised everyone by buying Cameron Green for Rs 25.20 crore in the 2026 mini auction. This Australian international player was the most sought after name in the auction and KKR was confident that he can take the franchise forward after Andre Russell.

Talking about the same, new head coach Abhishek Nair said that the franchise was ready to pay any price to sign him, but also said that the 26-year-old was very important for the team. Nair said, “I can’t say how much we were willing to pay for him, but we wanted to try our best. If we have money, we spend it. There was no point in saving money. The goal was to do whatever we can to get Green, because he is an important player for us. After Andre Russell left, we needed someone who can take the franchise forward. So, we decided that we needed Cameron. Green has to be included in the team.

Nair also confirmed that Green will bat in the top order in the upcoming IPL. Explaining the reason for this, he said that this all-rounder can score more than 500 runs and this was one of the reasons why the franchise was so desperate to include him in the team. Nair also talked about the importance of a top-order batsman who scores runs consistently, as this same formula has brought success to KKR in the past as well.

Nair said, “We see Cameron Green batting in the top three. He is a player who can score 500 runs for us. That’s why we were so desperate to have him in the team. We know he has that ability. He has scored more than 500 runs in the IPL before, so he can do well in the top order. He solves a lot of our problems. In the last few years, our success has come when our top three players have Scored more than 400 runs. Hopefully he will score big runs for us.”
