Sri Lanka Cricket Board has announced the teams for all three formats for the West Indies tour. Kusal Mendis has been made the new captain of the ODI and T20 team, while many players including Wanindu Hasaranga have returned to the team.

While making the captaincy change in limited overs cricket, the board has handed over the command of the ODI and T20 team to experienced wicketkeeper batsman Kusal Mendis. With this decision, the captaincy era of Charit Aslanka and Dasun Shanaka has ended for the time being. Sri Lanka Cricket Board has selected different teams of all three formats for this tour, in which the return of many big players has also been seen.
Kusal Mendis has captained Sri Lanka’s ODI team before and has long experience in international cricket. The board has made this change at a time when the Sri Lankan team is constantly looking for new combinations. The special thing is that Dasun Shanaka is currently a part of the Rajasthan Royals team in IPL 2026, while Kusal Mendis was recently seen playing for Peshawar Zalmi in the Pakistan Super League.
SL vs WI: Kusal Mendis becomes the new white ball captain
Sri Lanka Cricket Board has appointed Kusal Mendis as the captain of the ODI and T20 team for the West Indies tour. Mendis has previously captained Sri Lanka in 17 ODI matches, but now for the first time he has also been given the command of the T20 team. After this decision, ODI captaincy has been snatched from Charit Asalanka and T20 captaincy has been snatched from Dasun Shanaka. Although Asalanka managed to save his place in the ODI team, he has been dropped from the T20 team. The captaincy of the Test team will remain with Dhananjay de Silva.

Star leg spinner Wanindu Hasaranga has returned to the ODI and T20 team for this tour (SL vs WI). Hasaranga was out of the team for a long time due to injury and could not participate even in IPL 2026. Ishan Malinga, who has performed brilliantly for Sunrisers Hyderabad, has also got a place in the limited overs team. Fast bowler Dushmantha Chameera has also returned to the ODI team. Apart from this, Nuwan Thushara, who did not get NOC to play IPL, is now a part of the T20 team. Lasith Kruspule has got a chance in the T20 team after almost three years.

The Sri Lankan Board has selected different teams for all three formats, Test, ODI and T20. Nishan Madushanka, Ramesh Mendis and Lahiru Kumara have returned to the Test team. Players like Pathum Nissanka, Charith Asalanka, Mahish Teekshana and Dunith Velez have been included in the ODI team. Whereas Dasun Shanaka has been successful in saving his place in the T20 team. Kamindu Mendis has been made the vice-captain of both ODI and T20 teams.
SL vs WI: West Indies tour will start from June
This tour (SL vs WI) between Sri Lanka and West Indies will start in June. The first three-match ODI series will be played between the two teams, which will start from June 3. After this, T20 matches will be played on 11, 13 and 14 June. The two-match Test series will start from June 25. The Sri Lankan team will leave for the Caribbean tour on 26 May.
