IPL: Final to be played between RCB and Punjab on June 3 Gujarati
Ahmedabad: Punjab Kings have made it to the finals of IPL 2025. In the second qualifier match played at Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, Punjab Kings made it to the final by defeating Mumbai Indians by five wickets on the basis of captain Shreyas Iyer’s explosive innings of 87 runs. Punjab Kings needed 204 runs to win. On the basis of Shreyas’s innings of 87 runs with the help of eight sixes and five fours in 41 balls, Punjab entered the final by scoring 207 runs for five wickets in 19 overs. Shreyas led the team to victory by hitting four sixes to young Dabodi bowler Ashwini Kumar in the 19th over. Iyer made a partnership of 84 runs with Nehal Vadhera (48) for the fourth wicket, which was very important.
Opener Priyansh Arya scored 20 runs in 10 balls and Josh Inglis scored 38 runs in 21 balls. Prabhsimran Singh was out after scoring 6 runs and Shashank Singh was out after scoring 2 runs. Stoinis remained unbeaten after scoring 2 runs. For Mumbai, Ashwini Kumar took 2 wickets, Trent Boult and Hardik Pandya took 1 wicket each. Jasprit Bumrah gave 40 runs in four overs and did not get any wicket. This is the first time in the history of IPL that Mumbai Indians have lost despite scoring 200 or more runs.
Shreyas has become the first captain in the history of IPL under whose captaincy three teams have reached the finals. Before Punjab Kings, Shreyas had taken Delhi Capitals to the final under his captaincy in 2020. At the same time, Kolkata Knight Riders became champion in 2024 under his captaincy. Punjab Kings won the toss and chose to bowl. Batting first, Mumbai Indians scored 203 runs for six wickets. For Mumbai, Tilak Verma scored 44 runs in 29 balls, Suryakumar Yadve scored 44 runs in 29 balls, Jonny Bairstow scored 38 runs in 24 balls and Naman Dheere scored 37 runs in 18 balls.
For Punjab, Azmatullah Omarzai took two wickets, and Kyle Jamieson, Marcus Stoinis, Vaishakh Vijay Kumar and Yuzvendra took one wicket each. In the final of IPL 2025, Punjab Kings will face RCB on June 3 at the Narendra Modi Stadium. Both the teams will go to win their first IPL title. RCB has reached the finals for the fourth time and Punjab Kings for the second time. This time it is certain that a new champion will be found in IPL.
