New Delhi: India’s wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, as expected, became the most expensive player to be sold in the Indian Premier League. He was bought by Lucknow Super Giants for Rs 27 crore in the mega auction here on Sunday, while captain Shreyas Iyer, who led KKR to the title this year, joined Punjab Kings for Rs 26 crore 75 lakh.
There was fierce competition between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Lucknow for Pant. Delhi Capitals first used the Right to Match at Rs 20 crore 75 lakh, but when Lucknow placed the last bid of Rs 27 crore, the Delhi team backed off. Iyer was bought by Punjab Kings for Rs 26 crore 75 lakh. There was a competition between Delhi Capitals and Punjab for Iyer for a long time, but in the end, Punjab won. Iyer broke the record of Australian fast bowler Mitchell Starc, who was bought by KKR for Rs 24 crore 75 lakh in the last auction.
