IPL Retention: How many players can teams retain? RTM Rules-Learn Budgeting Math
Finally the time has come for which the fans were waiting for a long time. All 10 IPL teams are all set to reveal their player retention lists ahead of the mega auction for IPL 2025. The last date for releasing this list is 31st October at 4 pm. In such a situation, know the rules before retaining.
How many players can the team retain?
All 10 teams will be able to retain six players for IPL 2024. It can have a maximum of five international players, including Indians or foreigners, while two uncapped players are also included.
What is RTM card?
Right to Match is a rule that allows any team to basically buy their players in the mega auction. It was removed in the 2022 mega auction, but has now been reintroduced. Under this rule, when a player comes in the auction after his release, many teams bid on him.
After this, the team releasing that player is asked whether it wants to use RTM for that player. If he says yes, then the team will have to pay an amount equal to the last bid made in the auction for that player.
What is the total budget of IPL teams?
Before this time's mega auction, the purse of all the 10 franchise teams has reached Rs 120 crore. Earlier this amount was Rs 110 crore, but now it has been increased. Any team will first have to spend Rs 18 crore from this budget on retained players. After this, the teams for second and third place will have to spend Rs 14 crore and Rs 11 crore respectively.
