IPL: Vaibhav Suryavanshi created havoc with the bat, Rajasthan Royals ended the journey of Hyderabad
Mullanpur. In the Eliminator match of IPL 2026 in Mullanpur on Wednesday night, Rajasthan Royals defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 47 runs and made it to Qualifier-2. The biggest heroes of this victory were 15 year old Vaibhav Suryavanshi and fast bowler Joffra Archer. One created a storm with the bat, while the other broke SRH’s back with the ball.
Batting first, Rajasthan scored 243 runs for 8 wickets. In response, the entire Hyderabad team was all out for 196 runs in 19.2 overs. Now Rajasthan will face Gujarat Titans on Friday. The winner of this match will face Royal Challengers Bangalore in the final.
Vaibhav Suryavanshi was the most discussed in the entire match. This 15 year old batsman scored 97 runs in just 29 balls. His innings included 12 sixes and 5 fours. He was just 3 runs away from scoring the fastest century in IPL history. Chris Gayle’s record of century in 30 balls was about to be broken.
Vaibhav attacked Pat Cummins and SRH bowlers from the very beginning. Full length balls were delivered straight across the sight screen, while short balls were also scored heavily. His batting was so aggressive that SRH captain Cummins was seen constantly changing fields and making strategies, but none of the methods worked.
In this season, Vaibhav Suryavanshi also made a new record of sixes. He achieved the feat of hitting the maximum number of 65 sixes in a single season of IPL. Earlier this record was in the name of Chris Gayle, who had hit 59 sixes in 2012.
Vaibhav completed his half-century in just 16 balls. Seeing his batting, it seemed that he can fulfill his dream of scoring a double century in T20 cricket. However, he missed out on creating history by being caught out at third man on the ball of Praful Hinge in the eighth over. His disappointment was clearly visible as he returned to the pavilion slowly after getting out.
At the other end, Yashasvi Jaiswal was seen struggling after scoring 29 runs. Whereas Dhruv Jurel played a brilliant inning of 50 runs in just 21 balls. At one time Rajasthan seemed to be crossing 260 after scoring 180 runs for 2 wickets in 13 overs, but SRH made a comeback in the last 5 overs. During that time Rajasthan lost 5 wickets within 36 runs.
Praful Hinge took 3 wickets for Hyderabad, although he also gave 54 runs in 4 overs. Shivang Kumar impressed by taking the wicket of Yashasvi Jaiswal. On the other hand, Cummins had a very bad day. He gave away 64 runs in 4 overs without taking any wicket. Saqib Hussain gave 49 runs in 3 overs, while Ishan Malinga also proved expensive.
Sunrisers Hyderabad, which set out to chase the huge target of 244 runs, had a very poor start. Joffra Archer turned the match towards Rajasthan in the power play itself. He first trapped Abhishek Sharma on a bouncer and then got Ishan Kishan caught at cover. Travis Head tried to play by creating space against his pace, but the ball went straight into the stumps.
SRH’s explosive top order could not stand against Archer’s fast bowling. By the fifth over the team had lost 4 wickets for 57 runs. After this, Hyderabad could never make a comeback in the match and finally collapsed for 196 runs.
For Rajasthan, this victory became not just a match, but also the story of the team’s fight and comeback throughout the season. Now the team will focus on winning Qualifier-2 and reaching the finals. The Qualifier 2 match is to be held against Gujarat on 29th May.
