Iran attacks two commercial ships passing through Hormuz with missiles
New Delhi. Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) fired missiles at two commercial ships near Hormuz early Tuesday. This information has been given by a senior American official. This attack is likely to affect the talks between America and Iran to end the war.
This attack has happened at a time when people in Iran are mourning the death of former supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. Khamenei died at the beginning of the Iran war.
The Revolutionary Guard Corps had been threatening ships in this area for some time. This paramilitary force is engaged in weakening the efforts for dialogue. The Guard Corps had warned ships not to pass through the route that the US military has declared safe off the coast of Oman.
Tuesday’s attack took place after this warning and this has further increased the tension in the area. Meanwhile, United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations i.e. UKMTO has also informed about an incident.
According to UKMTO, an incident occurred about eight nautical miles east of Limah, Oman. A tanker ship was heading south when it was hit from the left side by an unknown projectile. Due to this collision the ship caught fire. It is a matter of relief that there is no news of any casualty in this accident. The concerned officials are investigating this entire matter.
UKMTO has advised all vessels to travel with caution and report any suspicious activity immediately.
Both these incidents have raised new concerns regarding security in Hormuz. This route is considered very important for the world because a large amount of oil is traded through here.
