Iran-backed Islamic Resistance carried out 19 attacks on US targets in Iraq

The Islamic Resistance, an Iran-backed militia group in Iraq, carried out 19 drone and missile strikes targeting US bases and regional locations on Friday, Al Jazeera reported.

Iran-backed militias have continued attacks on US targets in Middle East Asia, part of the ongoing conflict between the US and Iran.

At the same time, an Iraqi police source told Al Jazeera that the headquarters of the Iran-backed Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) was attacked in Al-Qaim, western Iraq. Air strikes were also reported on the headquarters of the PMF’s 34th Brigade in Mosul.

Shia militia groups the Islamic Resistance and the PMF have been involved in several supporting wars in the region.

On Thursday, the US Embassy in Baghdad issued a security alert, warning that Iran-backed militia groups could launch attacks in central Baghdad in the next 24-48 hours. The embassy wrote on

The embassy also noted the threat of kidnapping and said that “terrorist militias could influence the kidnapping of American citizens.” Along with this, it was also warned that some militia groups may present themselves associating themselves with the Iraqi authorities.

The US Embassy in Baghdad appealed to the public for information about the militias involved in the attacks. The embassy wrote,
“Help us prevent terrorist attacks on the U.S. Embassy and elsewhere. If you have information about these Iran-backed militia groups or individuals involved in the attacks, send them to us immediately.”
