Iran Dancing Missile: iran On Sunday, it fired several advanced missiles targeting Israeli and American targets. According to Iranian news medium Press TV, the Sejjil missile was also used in these attacks, which has been used for the first time since the war began on February 28.
Sejjil is an indigenously designed and developed two-stage ballistic missile, which runs on solid fuel. It is also known by other names, such as Sajjil, Ashura and Ashura Missile. Along with this, it is also called dance missile.
What is Sejjil missile?
- Iran’s Sejjil-2 is a two-stage, solid-fueled medium-range ballistic missile. Its estimated range is around 2000 kilometers and it can carry a payload of up to 700 kg.
- Due to its ability to change direction while flying at altitude, it is also called ‘dancing missile’. This name has been given because it is considered capable of avoiding missile defense systems, such as Iron Dome.
- According to the Center for Strategic and International Studies (CSIS), this missile is about 18 meters long. Its thickness is about 1.25 meters and its total weight is about 23,600 kg.
- Solid fuel has been used in this missile, which makes it more strategically effective. Being a solid fuel, it can be prepared and launched faster than older liquid fuel systems, such as the Shahab series of missiles.
- Work on the design of the Sejjil missile began in the early 1990s.
- According to CSIS, its first test was conducted in 2008, in which the missile covered a distance of about 800 kilometers. This was followed by a second test in May 2009, the purpose of which was to test improved guidance and navigation systems.
- After 2009, four more flight tests of this missile have been conducted. During the sixth test, this missile covered a distance of about 1900 kilometers and reached the Indian Ocean.
How did the war between Israel and Iran start?
- This conflict escalated further when America and Israel jointly launched joint attacks on Iran last month. Iran’s 86-year-old supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei died in these attacks. After this the war spread further throughout the Middle East.
- In response, Iran started attacking American military bases in Israel and Gulf countries. At the same time, Israel and America are also continuously attacking Iranian targets.
- According to reports, more than 2000 people have died in this war so far, most of whom are from Iran.
- The Pentagon says that since the beginning of the war, US and Israeli forces have attacked more than 15,000 targets inside Iran.
- According to American media reports, the Pentagon has also sent an amphibious assault warship named USS Tripoli to the area. Along with this, about 2500 marine soldiers have also been deployed, as fighting continues in the area.
