Iran President Masoud Pezeshkian : Iranian President Massoud Pezheshkian arrived in Russia's capital Moscow on Friday on an official visit. According to reports, the Iranian President was welcomed at the Moscow airport by the Russian Energy Minister and some other high-ranking Russian officials. Pezeshkian is in Moscow to discuss and sign a strategic partnership agreement with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin. This is his first visit to the Kremlin since assuming office in July last year. He assumed the presidency after his predecessor died in a helicopter crash.

Russian Energy Minister Sergei Tsyvilev welcomed Pezeshkian at the airport, indicating the importance of energy-related discussions during the visit.
The two leaders are expected to focus on strengthening bilateral ties and addressing international issues before signing the historic strategic partnership treaty. This agreement will deepen cooperation in various sectors including defence.
During the war in Ukraine, Russia has increasingly aligned itself with Iran and other countries critical of the US, such as North Korea. Moscow has struck strategic agreements with Pyongyang, Belarus and China, reflecting its inclination toward countries that share its adversarial stance against the West.
