Then while addressing the nation, Khamenei presented a shocking report. He claimed that 250 mosques have been destroyed during the protests. He described those responsible as evil and trained actors who were allegedly leading the unaware protesters. Khamenei clearly said that these are not protesters, but mercenaries whose aim is to attack homes, offices and religious places.

President Masoud Pezeshkian also told this in his televised address. He said that those who set fire to mosques are trained terrorists working at domestic and international levels. State media released photos of the burnt-out Imam Sadegh Mosque and Abu Zar Mosque in Tehran’s Sadeghieh Square, and directly blamed “Mossad (Israeli intelligence agency) mercenaries.” The government’s logic is simple: since no Iranian Muslim would burn the mosque, it must be the work of a foreign enemy.
