Iran rejects ceasefire deadline, sets tough conditions to end war
Amidst the ongoing conflict in West Asia, Iran has adopted a tough stance and rejected America’s ceasefire proposal. According to media reports, Tehran has made it clear that it will not accept any deadline set by US President Donald Trump and has termed the proposal as “excessive”.
What did the Iranian official say?
It is being told that the Iranian leadership thoroughly evaluated the US-backed plan, but did not find its terms in line with its interests. A senior Iranian official was quoted by Reuters as saying that the country’s initial reaction was not positive, although diplomatic talks were still ongoing.
According to reports, Iran has put forward some strict and clear conditions for ending the war. Tehran says that the alleged military actions and targeted attacks being carried out by America and Israel should be completely stopped. Apart from this, a concrete and binding guarantee of not taking any kind of military action against Iran in future has also been demanded. Iran has also raised the issue of compensation for the losses incurred during the war. Also, a condition has been laid down to end the conflict on all fronts including its allied groups active in the region.
The most important issue is regarding the Strait of Hormuz. Iran considers it part of its strategic and legal rights and is demanding formal recognition of its control over it. Officials say that until all these conditions are met, military operations will continue. The Iranian leadership has also made it clear that only Tehran will decide the time and conditions of the ceasefire.
15 point proposal reached Iran
Meanwhile, there are reports that Pakistan has sent a 15-point proposal from America to Iran. This proposal includes suggestions like relaxation of some economic sanctions, control over Iran’s missile program and increasing monitoring of the International Nuclear Agency. Along with this, there has also been talk of civil nuclear cooperation and ensuring safe shipping in the Strait of Hormuz. In return, America has proposed a temporary ceasefire for about a month, so that formal talks can begin.
Although talks are going on at the diplomatic level, the ground situation remains tense. According to reports, America is increasing its military presence in the region and is preparing to deploy the 82nd Airborne Division, known for quick action. Apart from this, additional deployment of marine and naval forces is also being done, which indicates that military preparations are also being intensified in parallel to the talks.
