Iran reportedly approves safe passage for Indian Liquefied Petroleum Gas tankers through Strait of Hormuz

In a significant development for India’s energy security, reports indicate that Iran has granted approval for Indian liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) tankers to safely transit the Strait of Hormuz. This strategic waterway, a critical chokepoint for global oil and gas shipments, has faced disruptions due to escalating conflicts in West Asia involving Iran, the US, and Israel.

India relies heavily on imports through the Strait of Hormuz for a substantial portion of its crude oil and LPG needs. Disruptions in the region have raised alarms about supply chains, with multiple tankers (including over 20 oil and gas vessels) stuck or rerouted due to heightened maritime risks.

Indian officials have been in ongoing talks with Iranian authorities to secure passage not just for these two tankers but potentially for more LPG and oil shipments. This cooperation highlights India’s balanced diplomatic approach in the region.
