The Strait of Hormuz is considered the world’s energy lifeline as one-fifth of global oil passes through it. This narrow sea route connects the Persian Gulf to the Gulf of Oman and is the main oil route for Arab countries. If this route is closed then the oil supply to countries like Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and Iraq may come to a complete halt.
Experts believe that any military movement in this waterway can lead to a major global war. Iran and Oman control the area and passage of merchant ships is subject to international law. Even before this, due to the military exercises held in February, a big jump of 6 percent was seen in oil prices.
Army’s open warning and economic impact
Brigadier General Sardar Ibrahim Jabari has made it clear that now this route will be under strict surveillance by his guards. Speaking to government media, he said that if any country tries to cross it, it will have to face consequences.
