New Delhi: The whole world is waiting for the agreement between Iran and the United States, but its picture is not clear. While the entire world’s supply chain is affected by the closure of Hormuz, there is volatility in the market due to the daily changing statements of US President Trump. Iran has stressed that no final decision has been taken yet on an agreement with the US to end the current conflict, while President Trump has again claimed that an agreement is likely to be signed soon.
At the same time, Iran has also refused to give up its control over Hormuz. Iranian media says that Tehran will not give up its control over the Strait of Hormuz in any agreement with America. Trump had announced that the US would again attack Iran “very strongly” on Thursday, but later said that he was canceling the strikes because the negotiators had reached a very good deal with Iran. He told the media that it depends on finalizing the documents, which should happen in the next few days and the signing ceremony will probably take place in Europe.
Iran Foreign Ministry denies the agreement
After Trump’s statement, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Ismail Baghai said that the news of the agreement is speculation and nothing has been decided yet. Trump has earlier also claimed to be close to an agreement with Iran, but no agreement was reached. The US and Israel launched large-scale attacks on Iran on February 28, with Iran responding by attacking Israel and US allies in the Gulf and effectively closing the Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for the world’s oil and gas. Despite agreeing to a ceasefire in April, there has been intermittent firing between the US and Iran. Which also includes retaliatory attacks twice this week. Besides, Trump has also repeatedly talked about the possibilities of an agreement with Iran.
What did Trump claim?
Speaking to reporters, Trump said, “We have a deal that Iran will never have nuclear weapons. Everything we did to achieve that was for that purpose. So, this is a huge deal.” He said that after the documents are finalized, it will probably be signed in Europe and this work should be done very soon. The documents are almost in final form, so let’s see what happens.” Trump also said that the Strait of Hormuz will also open as soon as it is signed.
