Iran Us Israel War Energy Crisis: The fire of war raging in the Middle East is no longer limited to just the border, but its direct impact has started falling on the lives of crores of common people of Asia. The closure of the strategically important Strait of Hormuz following US and Israeli attacks on Iran has created an energy crisis across Asia. The situation has become so serious that restrictions like the Covid-19 pandemic are once again reminiscent of many countries.
National emergency and people walking in the Philippines
Seeing the seriousness of the crisis, Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has declared a national energy emergency in the country. Due to severe fuel shortage, people there are forced to go to office on foot. The government has formed a special committee that will ensure uninterrupted supply of fuel, food and medicines. Also, instructions have been given to take strict action against those who hoard.
Strict restrictions in South Korea and Vietnam
To save energy in South Korea, the government has implemented 12 strict rules. President Lee Jae-myung has appealed to citizens to take shorter showers and not to charge electronic vehicles or phones at night. On the other hand, due to shortage of aircraft fuel in Vietnam, Vietnam Airlines has decided to cancel many domestic flights from April 1.
4-day work week in Pakistan and Sri Lanka
The situation is getting worse in the neighboring country Pakistan. Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has imposed a 4-day work week and work from home (WFH) for 50% of the workforce to reduce energy consumption. Apart from this, orders have been given to keep schools there closed for two weeks. Sri Lanka has also followed the same path and declared every Wednesday a holiday, from which the government hopes to save up to 25% fuel.
AC ban in Thailand
The Government of Thailand has made WFH mandatory for government employees and has directed to keep the temperature of AC in offices at 26-27 degrees. The effects of this war are beginning to be seen in India also. In many cities of Uttar Pradesh and Maharashtra, long queues are being seen at petrol pumps and people are doing panic buying.

Why did this crisis arise?
Most countries in Asia meet 70-80% of their oil and gas needs through the &8216;Strait of Hormuz&8217; Let’s complete it through. The closure of this sea route due to war is completely halting the supply chain. Experts believe that if this war continues for a long time, more stringent measures may be taken in the coming days.
