Controversy regarding statements

On June 24, 2026, Iran’s Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei warned that contradictory statements from US officials were deepening the gap of distrust. He clearly said that such things remind of old broken promises. Baqaei stressed that the relationship will move forward only if both sides fulfill their responsibilities. He criticized US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, saying that as long as US interference continues, there cannot be peace in the region.

tussle over nuclear inspection

There is a big difference in the claims of the two countries regarding nuclear inspection. US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance claimed that Iran has agreed to the highest level of nuclear inspection. But Iran’s spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei dismissed these claims as false. He clarified that there are no new plans for IAEA inspectors and no meeting with the IAEA chief.

Conflict over property and business

There is also a controversy going on regarding Iran’s frozen assets. Donald Trump suggested that this money be used to buy American agricultural products and that control remain with America and Qatar. At the same time, Iran’s Ambassador Ali Bahreini said that only Iran will decide how to use the property after it is released.

Other main controversies

  • Strait of Hormuz: Marco Rubio of the US said Iran would not be allowed to charge tolls for the waterway, while Iran has hinted at working with Oman to charge for services.
  • Missile Programme: Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian clarified that his country’s missiles were not part of this agreement (MoU) and never will be.
  • Military Stance: Iranian Army General Ahmad Reza Pourdastan said that now their army has changed its strategy and now they are adopting ‘Offensive Doctrine’ i.e. attacking stance.

Let us tell you that on June 17, 2026, Donald Trump and Masoud Pezeshkian had signed this agreement electronically so that the war could end. Now both the countries have 60 days to reach a permanent deal, but mutual distrust remains a major obstacle in this path.
